Downtown Atlanta Historic Office and Restaurant Space: 142 Mitchell St

Situated on the corner of Peachtree Street and Mitchell Street SW is the 142 Mitchell Street office building, aka  “The Bass Furniture Building.”

Built in 1920, the 40,000 SF building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The building structure actually consists of two buildings. The west section was built in the late 1890’s and the east section was built in 1924.

The west section contains four levels and a basement; the east section contains three levels. The front joins both buildings and it is done in the Commercial style of the early 1900’s. *The Bass Furniture Building is significant to both the architectural and historic development of Atlanta.

It is situated in an area that, for a century, was considered the social and commercial center for the city; its history and development reflect the growth and change of the city of Atlanta.*Currently there are two sections of the building for lease: a ground floor restaurant space and 2.5 floors of office space.

What makes this building so unique is not only its architecture, but it is less than 5 minutes walking distance to one of Georgia’s National Historic landmarks, the Georgia State Capitol. Two blocks north is the Five Points Marta station and two blocks south is the Garnett Marta Station. Also close by are important government buildings such as the Fulton County Courthouse, Traffic Court and the Atlanta Federal Center. Other popular attractions like Underground Atlanta, the Mall at Peachtree Center and Georgia Plaza Park are only a few blocks away.
