Recently Ben had the opportunity to stop by another Edgewood landmark on Dekalb Ave. Over 36,000 daily commuters ride by this gem each day on the rough and bumpy corridor from Downtown Decatur to Boulevard.
Some may some see this building as eye sore or even a junk yard of sorts but ever since I’ve been riding down Dekalb Ave (and especially since I began my career in real estate), I’ve been curious about the what goes on behind this rustic, graffiti plastered warehouse that sits on the corner of Dekalb Ave and Krog Street.
At the time I was working with State of the Artist owner Chris Turner and his wife to try to find them an intown office space. They were working out of a creative loft space at 1040 Commercial Lofts in Grant Park. Having to relocate by the middle of June we had to get started on our search quickly. After stopping by an office building on Edgewood Ave. I got a call from Loretta at Tim Barrett’s studio informing me about a 1,500 SF space they have available for lease. She ask me to stop by to take a look and I was taken back on what goes on behind this 24,000 sf warehouse.
Tim Barrett Designs operates a video/studio production company and does various work for clients including movie producers and entertainment artists. There are several spaces divided up for stage building, photo shoots and stage productions. In my conversation with Tim, he told me stories of shooting music videos for 50 Cent, building productions sets for Tyler Perry and problems with “non-artistic” graffiti tagging on his building.
